How Worldly Are We?

How worldly are we? How material do we see things? How material do we see people?

I recently had a talk, well, more like a listen, with my neighbor. Her life is hard, very hard. I cannot imagine how she does it, and I told her so. I won't get into details, but I found myself compelled to try to look into her eyes and see her as loved by God. To see her as being truly made in the image of God. I am so used to focusing on the brokenness in people's lives and in the church that I forget what God says about them. I forget they are precious in His eyes. I forget the price He paid for them. I forget that the church is the body of our wonderful Lord, Jesus Christ. I forget that the gates of Hell cannot stand up against the onslaught of the church.

I worry that most of us feel and live the same. It convicts me to get back to Scripture and let it challenge those beliefs that I hold deeper than the surface. Most Christians can talk the talk, especially pastors. But let us be slapped awake by the power of the word and see the world once again with eyes of faith.
